On Monday night, the girl that looks like me and two of my friends that I've known since kindergarten rocked our faces off at the Heart and Journey concert. Oh yeah, Cheap Trick was there, too, but no one cares about them. I'm still having trouble hearing people due to the fact that the sound techs were all a bunch of baboons that didn't know what they were doing. Everything was so stinking loud. And you know I'm not one for turning down a good jam, but the mix was so bad that it was hard to distinguish between voices and guitars. I would start to get quite miffed about it, but then Ann would belt out another luscious note with her sweet vibrato and all my anger subsided.
It really is a close call as to which group I enjoyed more. No one has as many inspiring and nauseatingly sweet ballads as Journey. And the new little Philippino man Arnel totally nailed Steve Perry's countertenor range as good as...well, Steve Perry...as did the drunken man in front of us who would turn around every two minutes that he could spare from dancing inappropriately with his wife and give us all high-fives. Except we didn't pay to see him. Well, technically we didn't pay for the concert either *thank you again Rose and Pauline for the birthday present*.
But what it all really comes down to is musicianship. The band members of Heart were fantastic. There was no what I like to call "guitar solo diarrhea", which the lead guitarist of Journey was having a major bout of (seriously, how many gratuitous guitar solos do you need in each song?), and they were spot-on every riff, progression and transition. Nancy Wilson moves around the stage more than I ever physically could. She habitually does this little thing where she does a lunge and then jumps up and twiddles her legs in front and behind each other (like some sort of rockin ballet move) and sums it all up with an outward kick. So awesome.
The moral of the night? Don't stop believing.
Rose and I bought matching Heart t-shirts.
Paula and Kase rocked the Journey t's.
Rose got a little too excited about the matching t's...and I got a lot uncomfortable. Which brings up an observation: there were quite a few homosexual (mainly of the female version) couples at the concert. I was completely unaware of homosexual tendencies amongst Journey and/or Heart fans. Go figgy. DISCLAIMER: Rose and I are not of that kind.

Anyway you want it, that's the way you need it.
Could I laugh any harder about the guitar solo diarrhea? I think not.
Good times.
I Love it! Heart rocked my world! I'm thinking since we are fans and we have matching t-shirts, maybe we should become homosexuals of the female kind. Think about it, let me know....Rosebud
Dearest Rosebud,
Let me think about that...how about no? I'm fine with merely keeping the t-shirt. I suggest you do the same.
Sincerely,
me
